We just consists of fresh basil really good quality parmesan reggiano, toasted pine nuts, some fresh garlic,lemon extra virgin olive oil, some pepper simple simple as that so I’m gonna do this with an immersion blender so you guys can kind of get in there to see what the consistency should be like you can do this in a regular blender you can do this in a food processor or actually in Italy when this sauce first came about they used to use a mortar and pestle but I can’t I don’t have one of those so, I’m just gonna use my handy-dandy immersion blender so, we’re gonna need some fresh washed basil in a large bowl and these are the ingredients you can just mix.I’m gonna use a little bit of garlic one clove is more than enough a small clove.
I’m just gonna give it a head start I’m gonna need some lemon zest and lemon juice about the zest of a quarter of a lemon or half of a lemon it’s not a lemon sauce it is pesto. I’m just gonna squeeze in the juice from a half of a lemon here. we go I squeeze it like this so I can catch all the seeds and then season this with salt and pepper like so and then salt and to get it started. I’m just gonna drizzle a tiny bit of olive oil.we’re gonna start drizzling in our olive oil and that’s pretty much done it’s a really really really quick sauce to make and it’s a great sauce to have on hand because you can use it and so many different ways now you can use it it’s like a base for a marinade.
You can use it of course over pasta spread it on some toast or oh you can like thin it out a little bit with some vinegar and then toss it with some chunky tomatoes and onions for like a tomato and onion salad so many things. you can do with this all right it’s amazing now without the immersion blender running.I’m gonna add in my parmigiana.
I’m gonna drizzle a tiny bit more of olive oil to this and I’m not making a huge batch of it just because I’m gonna use this as a base for a marinade a little bit later on but that’s pretty much it it’s quick it’s easy it’s a staple in my house because like. I said you can use it on so many things you can make a really nice Italian grilled cheese and spread this between the slices of bread with some mozzarella and oh so good that’s it it’s as easy as that to make your own pesto now that you saw how easy it is to make.
